Ivy  Removal Volunteer Opportunities

The following organizations in the Puget Sound area sponsor ivy pulls.  Please contact them directly if you wish to participate.

2007 Events
We are continuing ivy removal work parties on select first Saturdays of the month from 10am-2pm. Next event is Saturday October 06, 2007. Help us make the Seward park ivy free. 

Driving Directions: From I-5 North or South take the Columbian Way exit (just South of Downtown Seattle). Follow Columbian way as it winds down to Rainier Ave. South (approximately 2 miles). At Rainier Ave South take a right (south). Follow Rainier Ave. to S. Orcas St. and take a left. Follow this down to the water and take a right on Lake Washington Blvd. At the next stop sign Seward Park will be on your left. Follow signs to the work party or check the Kiosk at the Nature Center for the exact location.

South Woods Preservation Group - NE 150th and 25th Ave NE

Where:  NE 150th and 25th Ave NE, park in Shorecrest High School south parking lot.

When:  Third Saturday monthly 9:00 am to 3:00 pm

Why: Help eliminate invasive ivy and preserve South Woods

Notes:  If you have tools please bring them, if you don't please come anyway.  Useful tools:  pruning shears, shovels, loppers, wheelbarrows, small saws, old tarp.  Label any tools you bring with your ownership.

Dress for the weather, wear gloves.  Bring your own water bottle.

Ivy pulls and restoration projects are happening on at least four Open Space Parks on Mercer Island:
Pioneer Park
Mercerdale Hillside
Upper Luther Burbank Park
Clise Park

Times are usually 10:00am to 1:00pm Rain or Shine.  Wear long pants, long sleeve shirt and gloves.  Bring hand pruners if you have them.

to 1:00 pm every 1st Saturday of the month.

Where:  802 E. Mukilteo Blvd., Forest Park, Everett, WA. 

Notes:  Meet at the sports courts.  Wear work clothes, sturdy shoes and 

rain gear if necessary.  If you have them, bring your own gloves, tools and   reusable water bottle.  Snacks will be provided. Come early, at 9:00 am if you would like to go on a nature walk.

Tatoosh Group of Tacoma  Work parties are from 9:00 am - 12:00. Rain or shine! Metro Parks provides the gloves and tools. We will provide the water and cookies. It is a fun group and very friendly and welcoming. Hope you will join us in this worth while task!

POINT DEFIANCE PARK

Sept 22. Rhododendron Garden at Point Defiance Park. Please park on the left side of the road near the Garden. We will be working on ivy along the right hand side of the road heading towards Owens Beach.

In the works for Oct 27th and Nov 17th. It will be a joint effort between the Native Plant Salvage Program and the Ivy League. In Oct we plan to work at Point Defiance removing ivy and mulching to prepare to plant in November the plants that the Native Plant Salvage program has rescued!

THE TACOMA NATURE CENTER

Aug. 25th, located at 1918 South Tyler. This is diagonally across the street from Fred Meyers. Please meet in the back parking lot. We will be working on ivy removal.
